The Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) was at the Hollywood Casino St. Louis for the second time this year, and the $1,650 Main Event drew 480 entries and created a $698,400 prize pool. In the end, it was. The Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) is currently at Hollywood Casino Columbus and will culminate late next week with a $1,650 buy-in, $500,000 GTD Main Event.
That tournament, which will be live reported by PokerNews, will feature three starting flights beginning with Day 1a at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. Flights 1b and 1c will take place at Noon local time on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 respectively, and the survivors from all three flights will return for Day 2 action at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 29. Then, on Monday, April 29, the final table will play out starting at Noon.

Speaking of that final table, it will not only be live streamed but also filmed for television. This is notable as the state of Ohio has never held a nationally televised poker tournament. That will change thanks to the HPT, which has awarded more than $100 million to poker enthusiasts over 15 seasons.
'We have been looking forward to the Hollywood Columbus event for quite some time,' said HPT marketing manager Korey Stewart. 'There has been quite a bit of chatter about the event within the poker community since we announced it a few months back. Ohio has a great poker scene and we're anticipating a big turnout.'
In addition to the Main Event, which players can qualify for as little as $90 via HPT's popular satellite system, there are several side events in variants such as 7-Game Mix, Pot-Limit Omaha, and a Tag Team event.
The stop actually started this weekend with a $350 buy-in, $100K GTD Opening Monster Stack, a tournament that attracted 755 entries and crushed its guarantee by creating a $226,500 prize pool. The winner of that tournament is slated to take home $48,666.

What is the Heartland Poker Tour?
The Heartland Poker Tour is a US-based poker tour and internationally syndicated television series that airs over 52 weeks and makes numerous stops across the traditional American Heartland. While originally intended to be a Midwest, regional tour and television program, as the US ‘s appetite for televised poker increased, the HPT went into syndication across the world. Today, it airs in the Caribbean, Middle East, and Europe and on several cable and satellite television providers.
By the end of the HPT’s sixth season, it had produced more than 150 hour-long television episodes. Episodes are filmed at each US stop on the tour in casinos across the country in states like Nevada, Colorado, Indiana, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Michigan, and Iowa.
From single-table sit-n-go’s to multi-table mega-satellites to multi-table, multi-day tournaments, and the coveted Main Event, there are events for every player’s bankroll and desire.
HPT Player of the Year
The HPT awards a player of the year (POY) based on accumulated points earned from tournament placement. Aaron Johnson won the honors for season 14, and other prior HPT players of the year include such familar names as Aaron Massey, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler, Shawn Roberts, and 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg “Fossilman” Raymer.
Earning HPT player of the year honors carries with it much more than bragging rights (although those are pretty nifty in and of themselves.) In fact, players of the year freeroll into six main events the following year and also receive complimentary hotel accommodations at those six locations.

As of January 2009, HPT entered into a partnership with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in order to raise awareness and funding for the cause. In fact, one percent of every HPT prize pool goes toward DAV programs. The HPT holds additional celebrity charity tournaments to raise funds for DAV and also runs various DAV public service announcements during its weekly television programs.
